A Reader's Guide to The Honest Broker
Four months ago, I initiated an experiment: Can I use Substack to gain more independence in my writing and research? I am deeply appreciative of everyone who has subscribed to The Honest Broker. I am humbled by those who have chosen to become paid subscribers. And a very special thank you to my Founding Members. Numbers of overall and paid subscribers continue to grow, giving me great optimism that this experiment is succeeding.
The increase in readership provides me an opportunity to provide both new and long-time subscribers an overview of what you can find here at The Honest Broker.
I write a lot of posts based on work I’m doing at the time and also opportunities where my work intersects with current events, which happens a lot and not by accident.
I also have started to write in SERIES, which follow a topic across multiple posts. The number of SERIES I have ongoing here will continue to grow. I am considering using a SERIES to serialize a new book on climate – an optimistic look at our future on planet Earth.
I am also starting to use THREADS to motivate discussion and the extended peer- and community- review of work in progress.
Most weeks I write a PIELKE’S WEEKLY MEMO which is generally for paid subscribers only (though note that I have just ungated #12 and #8 and #9 are also ungated for readers to get a sense of what these offer). These are a bit more informal and draw upon and update past posts and analyses. These are intended to add value to the most engaged readers of The Honest Broker. Look for the next memo next week.
I also use The Honest Broker to share my writings, talks, podcasts and the like. Paid subscribers have access to a downloadable PDF of my book, Disasters & Climate Change (2018). I also want to make sure that all of my scholarly writings are freed from academic paywalls. I give a lot of talks around the world to many different groups, and I will share many of those talks here, either videos or my slide deck, often accompanied by an overview.
Below you can find links to all of the above. I’ll periodically update this post to provide ready access to the large growing amount of material you can find here. And, as always, I welcome your suggestions for how The Honest Broker can become of greater value to you. In addition, I welcome tips and pointers, anonymity will be preserved if desired.

Paying subscribers to The Honest Broker receive subscriber-only posts, regular pointers to recommended readings, occasional direct emails with PDFs of my books and paywalled writings and the opportunity to participate in conversations on the site. I am also looking for additional ways to add value to those who see fit to support my work.
There are three subscription models:
1. The annual subscription: $80 annually
2. The standard monthly subscription: $8 monthly - which gives you a bit more flexibility.
3. Founders club: $500 annually, or another amount at your discretion - for those who have the ability or interest to support my work at a higher level.
