"I have long argued that experts need to make peace with democracy. Just as important, policy makers need to make peace with expertise."

I disagree for too many reasons to list here, but maybe this quote from Richard Feynman sums it up:

"Science is the belief in the ignorance of experts."

To see his quote in context, go here:

One could argue that experts are misquoted by the news media and by politicians, but I think Covid revealed that is not the case. Dr. Fauci and many others in NIH simply knowingly lied. As you have experienced first hand, so called "climate experts" have lied. You and I disagree on this and other issues, but I've never heard you lie and you explain what you have researched well and completely. But I see you as the exception, not the rule. As a result, with few exceptions, I always check what I'm told by "experts" and I encourage all to do so.

As for Trump and his cabinet members cleaning house in government, that is what the voters asked him to do. It is what he promised to do. Faith in all government institutions is very low, I think firing the lot of them and replacing them is the only thing that will restore faith in government.

"Whose Experts?" indeed. The answer in our noisy political system is "the experts of the party that won the last election". Biden did a clean sweep, now Trump/Kennedy are doing the same thing. Sounds like business as usual in Washington to me.

Given how badly both parties bungled the COVID era (e.g. not following the science that children are not vulnerable and not even good vectors of the virus, ignoring side effects, etc.), some changes are indeed in order to restore public trust. Roger, your idea of staggered terms would be a good start, but Kennedy also has a point about pharmaceutical industry conflicts of interest.

What if the Advisory Committee was just abolished? Is its role that crucial? Can't peer review and open dialogue accomplish much the same result?
