It may be unfair, but when I see the term 'trans female', I assume a (likely) unfamiliarity with the general range of the cultural conversation.

Transgender people! There's a lot of people that considers themselves or feels different than what sex there were born into! And on the gender box where it ask male , female or other/transgender it should be that way in sports as well, male, female and transgender all 3 genders compete for gold! Don't mix transgender people with female or male!

> Sport places males and females into categories based on their gender, which typically coincides with sex, but not always

I would say that sports are traditionally divided by sex, rather than gender. Gender might be used as a "shortcut" in lieu of people actually declaring their sex - because as you say, they generally align - but the actual categorisation is based on sex, not gender.

So far, the ONLY trans woman I know of who is physically qualified to compete in women's sport is Jazz Jennings, a male child experimented on with puberty blockers at age 11, had numerous sex reassignment surgeries, many serious medical complications, now severe depression and inability to attend college because he can't take care of his neo vagina without his mother's supervision. He has gained 100 pounds on antidepressant drugs, but is restarting the reality show soon.

They aren't trans females! Please learn the proper lingo before you mansplain. There is no such thing as a trans female, as it confuses the reader with transmen, who are female, trans to men, but never male.. They are trans women, otherwise known as female impersonators.

Females are not "cis women", "other women", "natal women", or "non trans women". It is offensive to call females by names invented by men to include themselves into our boundaries without our consent.

Using that term reveals your lack of understanding of the female perspective of gender theory. You apparently do not understand the protected nature of the female category in law, substituting for life. ALL females need protection from random males our entire lives. We live like prey animals, the male gaze, cameras in restrooms, wolf whistles, being strong-armed, raped, date raped, murdered by serial killers, because we need men and law to protect and defend us as we can't defend ourselves.

My personal views of trans-female athletes runs along the lines of sport doping. Their natural advantages come as result of early testosterone “doping” which simply cannot be turned back. This is an inherent advantage with no equalizer for non-trans female competitors.

For many decades the fight was waged to give women equal opportunity and funding in sport. Now we have them competing against “dopers”.

Perhaps the answer is an “open” category on the women’s side, where women would be allowed to take enhancements to compete against those entering their sport with an obvious glaring advantage?

All I know is this is going to destroy women’s sports if there is no regulation. Really, why try when you know the deck is stacked against you?
