It is a holiday weekend here in the U.S. — Memorial Day, when we remember and give thanks to those who died in military service. The day was first observed in the years after the Civil War and became a federal holiday in 1971. I’ve had family who served — my grandfather in particular in World War 2. I hope that Memorial Day also motivates thinking and discussion about war more generally.
