Nice review of this situation. I’ve lived in Flash Flood Alley since 1971 and know the Guadalupe River very well. This event with so many children killed will almost certainly spur action on a problem that has been overlooked for too long. That said, this is a dangerous area from the standpoint of flood risk, but it’s also very beautiful and attracts a lot of people to enjoy the creeks and rivers. Gotta be an acceptable balance between risk and safety in there somewhere. Thanks for contributing to the effort to improve things. Couldn’t help but notice that an earlier commenter ignored your urging to avoid turning this tragedy into an opportunity to score political points. Disgraceful.

Nice to see a rational analysis of this location, instead of the gleeful trumpeting of the AGW mobs declaring that 'we' must give up our carbon-based energy because Big Flood.
