That may well be true for the US but I suspect it is not the case for many less advanced economies. I hope they continue to grow and have a higher quality of life for their citizens, even if it means more carbon emissions.

Something seems off about the first graph. If I take the values from the second graph, dividing MMT CO2 by GDP, I can reproduce the values in the first graph from 2005 on (as best my tired old eyes can interpolate.). Before that, I cannot. What's wrong?

PS. Churchill, the most scientifically literate leader in my lifetime, on scientists and making policy: "Scientists should be on tap, not on top."
