The other thing that's hard for scientists and policymakers to grasp is the idea of scarce resources and competing priorities. What good is NOAA's study of the multidecadal flows of polar ice, if the country goes into a debt-driven death spiral by defaulting on its debt obligations?

Cutting research isn't about ignoring the climate, it's about removing ballast from the sinking ship.

Everyone in every corner of the bureaucracy screams when their pet project is shrunk or cut. The result is a lot of tough decisions have to be made that look like short-sightedness to the champions of those projects.

After pointing out John Kerry’s silly assertion that the arctic would be ice free by 2013, which was obviously wrong, you (Roger) assert that the atmosphere has continued to warm primarily due to increases in CO2 from hydrocarbons. I find this assertion not much better than John Kerry’s. We don’t know if the warming cycle we’re in is due primarily to natural factors, or how much if any, may be due to man’s CO2 emissions. If its’s know, please let me know what percentage is natural vs. not and on what this assertion is based. These questions are rhetorical as only theories are available.
