"As this harassment was playing out, on many occasions I asked campus administrators to either implement a formal process of mediation with my department chair or to find me a new home on campus where I was not subject to a hostile work environment."

The epitome of blacklisting with no clear formal process. The vagueness is the killer. Like throwing spaghetti at someone's reputation to see what sticks. It's so blatantly undemocratic, crushing meritocracy.

I admire your ability to have distance, balance and keep a good attitude.

Roger - your even temperament and balanced tone do you much credit. I don't see why you couldn't have included the names of the relevant people involved. I think their behavior was petty and cowardly and a little sunlight is well deserved.

I am more than a little disheartened at the behavior of the vast majority of the faculty. For all the talk about "speaking truth to power" when they actually had a chance to speak out and draw attention to your treatment there was instead nothing but silence. Not exactly profiles in courage.

I have come to the conclusion the university model in this country is outdated and in need of serious change. I'm not sure it should survive in its current format as long as this level of politicized nonsense is so pervasive. I suspect the University of Colorado is no different than the vast majority of institutions of "higher education" across the country. I look forward to part 5 on how to fix this ridiculous mess.
